Good day, dear
friends 💙
The history of
traumatology includes many interesting operations and medical achievements.
Today we want to talk about 5 of them:
🔹 1. Thomas More’s operation: In 1814, British
surgeon Sir Evarist Williams Thomas More performed the first successful hip
amputation operation, saving the life of a soldier wounded in the Battle of Waterloo. This operation became an important step in the field of amputations
and traumatology.
🔹 2. Pasteur’s operation: In 1909, the French surgeon Jules Pasteur developed a technique for splinting bone fractures, which made it possible to reduce infectious complications and improve treatment results. This method became an important step in the development of orthopedics and traumatology.
🔹 3. Greenfield’s operation: In 1953, the American surgeon Graham Greenfield developed an operation to replace the femur joint with an artificial joint. This method, known as total femur arthroplasty, has significantly improved the quality of life of patients with severe joint injuries.
🔹 4. One of the famous cases of successful limb transplantation is the case of Florana Lacourt, a French man, who in 2010 performed a historic hand transplant operation.
Florent Lacourt lost his right arm due to an injury and it was difficult for him to lead a normal life. The doctors decided to offer him the amputation of the damaged arm and the opportunity to undergo a hand transplant operation. After a long search for a suitable donor and careful preparation for the operation, which included not only observation, but also psychological support for Lacourt, the operation was carried out.
Florent Lacourt’s hand transplant operation was the first successful operation of its kind in France and one of the first in the world.
🔹 5. Mayo’s operation: In 1913, the Mayo brothers (William and Charles) first successfully performed an operation to repair a rupture of the biceps tendon of the shoulder. This operation became the basis for the development of many other tendon repair procedures and became an important achievement in the field of orthopedics and traumatology.
These operations and methods became important stages in the development of traumatology and orthopedics, saved the lives of patients and improved their quality of life. 🤓
